We Were A Family

By David Black

David is the son of Holocaust survivor Eugene Black. His artwork is inspired by his family history.

Eugene was transported with his family to Auschwitz-Birkenau in May 1944. He was the only survivor. Following selection in Birkenau, Eugene was made to perform slave labour in Buchenwald, Dora-Mittelbau and Harzungen concentration camps. He was liberated at Bergen Belsen on 15 April 1945 by the British forces. He later made his life in Britain, married Annie and has four children and two grandchildren.

Eugene is featured in the HMDT Learning from the Past film.
