Memory Pathway

The Art students from Ormiston Denes Academy were shown videos relating to the Holocaust and discussed the importance of “keeping the memory alive”. They talked about the quote: “Those who do not remember the past are condemned to r…epeat it” – George Santayana. This was followed by looking at symbols and keywords relating to the Jewish culture and the Holocaust. Some students translated key words into Hebrew. Added to this, they explored the tradition of laying stones in Jewish graveyards.

Attached is a photograph of the students’ response. These pebbles became a Memory Pathway at a memorial event on Holocaust Memorial Day. They are now placed in the school’s memorial garden and time capsule.
